OPI Austin-tatious Turquoise

I'm not one for layering polishes. I know there are some nail bloggers out there who absolutely rock at choosing layering combinations, but I'm not one of them. So even though I love sheer colors that are full of shimmer and duochrome goodness, they usually end up neglected in my Alex. OPI Austin-tatious Turquoise was one of those sad, insufficiently loved colors that I would pick up, think was pretty, and then promptly place it back in it's spot.

That was until I decided that I really needed to use all of my untrieds, which also included Orly's It's Up to Blue. I didn't really want straight up neon blue nails that week so I compromised by choosing Austin-tatious Turquoise for a layering adventure! What I ended up with was gorgeous mermaid sparkly nails that I really enjoyed wearing.

This was two coats of It's Up to Blue followed up with three coats of Austin-tatious Turquoise. I used OPI Nail Envy as a base coat and topped it off with NYC GCS. Three coats seemed like quite a bit, but even at two coats the duochrome and sparkles weren't quite prominent enough for my liking.

Application on both polishes was easy peasy and I didn't have any issues. I expected It's Up to Blue to leave some brushstrokes but I was pleasantly surprised that they were either very subtle or not there at all.

What colors have you layered with Austin-tatious Turquoise that really make this polish shine? Are you a layering queen or do you tend to stick with single colors like me? Let me know in the comments! Thanks for reading!
